  • To understand the value of lyric analysis to the project as a whole.
Analysis of Closer:

1. Looked at one line of the lyrics and drew our own interpretations of them.

My drawing portrays a young man who seems very problematic and is an alcoholic. He is wearing scruffy, baggy clothes in order to show that he doesn't care about much, including his image and how he comes across to others.
I derived this particular image from these lyrics as they suggest that he has chosen to be in a spooky, derelict town which shows that he is lonely and is the kind of person who wants to be left alone by everyone and doen't care about what they think of him.

2. Analysed the first verse of the song:

The lyrics of this song suggest lonliness and the feeling of being scared and vulnerable. It seems as though the subject wants to run away from all of his problems to a safe place where he feels like he can belong. He also seems broke-hearted and helpless, like he is stranded and wants to get out of this lonely place, but cannot escape.

This is my interpretation of the first shot of the video:

The way in which I have interpreted the first shot of this song is very simple. My drawing shows a mid-shot of the subject looking scruffy and alone. His facial expression will be the most effective part of this shot as it will convey just how scared and alone he is. Furthermore, as I have explained above, there is no lightin apart from the low of the street lights on the subject's face, again, exaggerating and further expressing his emotion.
